Face Melt is at it again featuring Mexicans With Guns, an artist with a collection of refreshingly unique compilations. Out of San Antonio, Chicano DJ Ernest Gonzalez injects a sense of vibrancy into each well-crafted tune. When I first gave this band a listen, I didn’t know what to expect given the name, but Gonzales has real skills. In an interview, he divulged insights on the meaning and inspiration behind his original, upbeat music.

Mexicans with Guns is a loaded name, pun intended, and brings to mind a wide assortment of issues. If, by keeping the name, people start thinking and talking about what it means to them, then I feel like the name is successful.

MwG’s recent release of Nuts and Bongos on Exponential Records highlights collaborations with Adult Swim MC Cerebral Vortex, as well as remixes of Cobra Krames, Robot Koch and Ninjasonik. Continuing to make bumpin’ experimental electronic, ghetto tech rap and regional Mexican beats, this DJ shows no signs of stopping. So, shake them hips already.
